Benidorm has become synonymous as a destination of cheap booze, full English all day fry ups and Chinese 3 course meals for under 5 euros ... and that includes half a bottle of wine. Walk around the Rincon End and you cannot fail to see the boards outside various bars and cafes advertising food and drink at unimaginably rock bottom prices - 1.50€ for a pint of San Miguel or full Sunday roast for under 5€. Its a wonder that anyone chooses to go All Inclusive if you can eat so cheaply.

But the town is also famous for its Spanish Tapas - anyone who visits Benidorm MUST pay a visit to Tapas Alley in the Old Town. Earlier this year Benidorm hosted a "Tapas & Pinchos" competition which was a huge hit.

Now for the third year running Benidorm is hosting a "Gastronomy Week" to promote quality Spanish cuisine. 27 different restaurants are participating in this event, which starts today, Monday 4th June and lasts until Sunday 10th June 2012.

Prices range between 30€ to 45€ which includes 3 amazing gourmet courses PLUS quality wines, some of which are sourced from the local Enrique Mendoza bodega in Alfaz del Pi - which is on the outskirts of Benidorm.
An example of some of the delicious and exciting things on offer include:
Zarzuela of fish & seafood
Starters - Cod & Cava risotto, Crispy ravioli of lobster. Partridge pate, Crayfish sauteed with green garlic.
Mains - Suckling pig, Sea Bass baked in salt, Red tuna with summer fruits, Stone grilled beef fillet, Moorish lamb hock, Lobster Paella.
Desserts - Crepes with chocolate mousse, Carpaccio of pineapple, Nougat cake with mojito ice cream.
Sucking Pig
Mayor of Benidorm Agustin Navarro said of the event "I encourage you to participate in these events where we are sure you will enjoy a wide range of delicious menus available to the thousands of customers from our wide range of restaurants, bars and cafes"

It is certainly something to consider if you would like to try some elaborate and skillfully prepared food that is artfully presented - sometimes its a shame to actually eat the dish as it looks so beautiful!
