Spain, unlike the UK is somewhat in the dark ages when it comes to round the clock shopping - 24hr supermarket opening has not hit this country yet. Infact it has only been since the beginning of the month that Sunday openings have started due to the influx of holiday visitors to our shores. Carrefour is now open until midnight 7 days a week and the shopping complex opposite "Marina Centre" has also opened its doors to Sunday trading. But this is only over the duration of the holiday season - July, August and September.
So if you suddenly realise that you are short of something or have just arrived on a Sunday afternoon fear not - this seems strange to those living in the UK as you have been use to Sunday openings for years. But once inside do be careful of all the huge boards with amazing 70% discount promotions on certain products. Read it carefully ! You will find that the 70% discount is on the purchase of the second item ... and the huge price on the poster is what you will pay for that NOT what the actual price is. It is easy to think that that is the actual price and start loading up your trolley - I almost fell into this trap.
And talking of promotions be aware of the 1€ per pint applies here too! Baffled .... let me explain. You go into the bar and as a pint is advertised at 1€ you'd assume that two half pints would be 1€. NO - two half pints = 3€ as the price of a half pint is 1.50€. No offers on the half pint ! Prices vary in some bars dependent on time of day - just because you pay 2€ for 2 pints at lunchtime do not think it will apply in the evening too. Ask the barman if you can pay at lunchtime and drink it in the evening !!!!
