Not only has it made the national Spanish press, with a headline "The queen of vaginal magic retires" but it has also made the UK tabloids today – the Legend of Benidorm, Sticky Vicki has, after 35 years announced her retirement. Some say long overdue, but at the age of 72, following a hip replacement and subsequent diagnosis that she is suffering with cancer, the grandmother has called it a day. In the last few years her daughter Demaria has been performing alongside her – not what many would deem a normal mother daughter collaboration, but one which appeared to work well for the pair. They were certainly hard working, often performing in several venues each night around the Rincon area.
The pull factor was phenomenal for the bars – often virtually empty until just before she came on and then full to the rafters, with people vying for front row positions. Many imagined it would only appeal to the men – being a somewhat X-rated show, but just as many, if not more women would go to watch Sticky Vicki.
It was a must see for any Stag or Hen group and those unaware were certainly left open mouthed as the septuagenarian proceeded to strip – except for her shoes and conjure a variety of objects from her nether regions. It would start with handkerchiefs then go on to a light bulb, a string of razor blades and her finale – opening a Coca Cola bottle! At Christmas time it was a fully lit up tree… mini obviously!
Surprisingly she was actually a classically trained ballet dancer but following the death of Franco unemployment in the entertainment industry was high. She needed to reinvent herself to be noticed and it can be said with confidence that she certainly achieved that!
Her real name is Vicky Leyton and she was born in Tenerife but came here on holiday and decided to stay. She has two children and as a single mother had to find something that enabled her to work around the school hours – she would wake to take them to school then go back to bed. Well she can certainly relax now and spend time with her family – Benidorm will never be the same.
Sadly there appear to be more and more live, full on explicit sex shows cropping up, which gives this wonderful resort a sleezy image. There is possibly a place for such things but not in full view of any passers by. There are even boards advertising these shows in daylight hours, as families with children walk past on their way to the beach.
The proliferation of semi clad pole dancers around the square and Calle Gerona is also becoming more common – if it is not regulated then there is a danger it will turn many off coming back…. And that’s not something businesses can afford to do!
