Thomas the TankThe annual ‘Benidorm Bangers’ car rally cruised into Benidorm this afternoon – causing many heads to turn as they coasted along the Avd Mediterraneo and the top part of the Levante beach front, with ba police escort before parking up and enjoying some well deserved refreshments at the White Lion.

scooby dooJaime – proprietor of the White Lion arranged a police escort from the motorway toll and closure of Calle Bilbao, to enable everyone to come and admire the many customized cars.
In total 52 cars set off on the epic 1,500 mile journey, meeting at the ACE café in London before heading off onto the M25 in convoy and down to Dover for the ferry crossing.

SpidermanEn-route the teams had a number of challenges to complete – with points being awarded for each success. Sadly only one car didn’t make it, passing out 10 miles outside of Paris. After the breakdown recovery was called to collect the vehicle, the team hitched a ride from others to get to Benidorm.

Heli vanRob Scott from Scarborough, who runs an HGV Driver Training school organized the event – and arrived in the splendid Yorkshire Air Ambulance Heli-Van. Each team was raising money for a charity close to their hearts but they all came bearing gifts and toys for a local charity here too – Busy Bees Benidorm.

donations for Busy Bees Accepting the donations, Wayne Bellamy-Wright was totally overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity shown, saying that the children will be truly ecstatic. There was also a further €294.50 cash raised from a collection bucket passed around for loose change… what an incredibly kind hearted group they are, not only supporting their own cause but a local children’s charity here too.

zombieThey are now spending a few days enjoying the weather and hospitality here before heading back – most have arranged for the cars to be collected by a breaker and so will fly back… and unbelievably, Rob is already thinking about next year’s event and how to make it even better!

Why can we never find out about events until after they have happened? Even the local papers, I.e. Euro Weekly, do not advertise them. We have even tried the tourist office. We live here by the way. Can you suggest where we can look for upcoming events in Benidorm. So fed up of missing out
