IMG 8872Today (Thursday 18 November) is deemed “Brit Day” and Benidorm is certainly a magnet for those that like dressing up. British Fancy Dress Day always takes place on a Thursday, the day after the end of the official Benidorm fiesta. This 5 day event closed with a spectacular firework display last night, lit from the Poniente beach.

IMG 0673The resort has been relatively busy all week, possibly many making up for last year’s event being cancelled due to Covid.

Pre-pandemic up to 40,000 people (predominantly Brits) would descend on the Rincon de Loix in all manner of fancy dress with the only criteria "have fun". IMG 0670On the whole, the weather had been great until till morning – but thankfully by lunchtime the rain had stopped and everyone came out to play!
Costume wise anything goes – some admittedly on the verge of questionable taste, but the effort made by so many is incredible.

IMG 8860Most travel here with their costumes in their luggage, which looking at some is rather hard to believe – certainly not in their 10kg hand luggage allowance I bet. Calle Gerona, or as some call it “The Strip” was closed to traffic to enable people to wonder without the risk of being mowed down by a passing car and police were standing by on the periphery, ensuring it was a fun but trouble free day (and night).

IMG 0674It certainly looks like the resort is back in business - there is certainly pent up demand looking around today and great to see so many having fun.

Undoubtedly, next year many more will come again - some obviously hesitant whether to book for this year, but seeing the pictures will make them more determined not to miss out on another year here.
