There is still over a week to go, but Benidorm is already gearing up for British fancy dress day – due to take place here on Thursday, November 17. Many bars along calle Gerona, the epic centre of celebrations, have already hung up the bunting in preparation.
Traditionally the event takes place the day after the official end of the town´s annual fiesta, when a gigantic firework display is lit from the Poniente beach on Wednesday night to mark the final act. A great place to watch it from is up on the Mirador.
In years past, up to 40,000 have descended on the resort for this one day, dressing up in all manner of costume and let´s just say, that political correctness goes out of the window!
It is a great boost for the local economy and bars undoubtedly are in for a fantastic day. Last year it was slightly marred by rain at the beginning of the afternoon, but it certainly didn´t appear to put anyone off joining in the fun. Fingers crossed that the forecast is correct with temperatures in the low 20´s and partial cloud.
