The annual midnight firework display takes place tonight – Saturday 10 August at L´Olla in Altea – an event that attracts tens of thousands of spectators from across the entire country (up to 50,000 are expected)
The spectacular display, which marks the end of the San Lorenzo fiesta has been taking place since 1988 and will be lit from floating pontoons - the reflection from the sea increases and magnifies the colours even more.
The beach around L´Olla – at the far end of Altea near to the Villa Gadea hotel starts to get busy in the afternoon, with many bringing picnics and staking their places for a frontline view. Parking will be a real problem as many roads will be closed off and barriers are already erected along the main N332 road.
There are extra bus and tram services, with trams departing Olla Altea back to Benidorm at 0:45, 1:01, 1:19, 1:36, 1:53, 2:10, 2:27, 3:02, 3:36 and 3:54. It really is worth the effort to go and there is always a great atmosphere, with the excitement from the crowds rubbing off.
Even if you are not certain exactly where to head, just follow the crowds who will all be heading in the same direction. There will be plenty of extra police and security but as always with huge crowds, be extra vigilant of pickpockets. Do not take valuables with you and keep your bags and wallets close.
