Starting this Friday, June 19th, Benidorm´s Gastro calendar will kick off with what is probably regarded as the highlight of its gastronomic events – the “Tapas & Pinchos” competition. Now in its 16th year, local eateries get to showcase their artistic and innovative skills that reflect the creativity and diversity of Benidorm’s hospitality sector.
From modern interpretations of traditional Spanish favourites to innovative international-inspired dishes, the competition has become a showcase for the talent found in the resort’s kitchens.
The 19 establishments taking part in the competition are:
Baldo, Cervecería L’Abadía, El Bodegón Aurrera, El Mesón, Freiduría Los Peces, La Cava Aragonesa, La Fava, La Tabernita del Sur, La Tapería, Malaspina, Marisquería El Puerto, Molta Pasta, Pinocchio Playa, Pintxos Aurrera, Rock’n Ribs, Taberna Andaluza, and Uncle Bob Taberna Jamaicana.
La Pinta and La Pinta Beach are also participating in the 10 day event but not part of the competition.
Each piece is a set price of €3.50 and over the ten days, residents and visitors are encouraged to vote for their favourite – with all participants entered into a prize draw to win a meal for two valued at €60 at any of the participating venues.
Tapas Alley really is a must if you come to Benidorm. It is a great introduction to Spanish food and you can pick and choose what you want to try. The descriptions - with ingredients are normally written in both Spanish and English and you can try as many or as few as you like.
There is always a great atmosphere along this stretch and although open for lunch the best time to go is at night, when its full and bustling. The noise level - remember the Spaniards are not quiet, gets very loud and everyone sits outside on tables and chairs... and being World Cup time, will probably get even more animated.
