Much was made in the British press of a group of 18 hens – in their 30’s and 40’s heading to Magaluf this week, who were removed from a Jet2 flight for wearing what the airline deemed “Offensive T-Shirts” with the phrase ‘Bitches on Tour”. The Bride-to-be claims no-one spoke to her and was visibly upset by the entire episode – probably more embarrassed that the entire nation, including her employers were reading about it. Jet2 replied that ‘as a family friendly airline we will not allow people on board if they are using or displaying offensive language’. Should the same also apply to towns, cities and holiday destinations? Anyone that has been to Benidorm cannot fail to be shocked and appalled at some of the sights we see walking about the streets.

Summer has most certainly arrived – the sun is out, the resort is bustling and the beaches are packed. But just because you’re on holiday and relaxed do not let your guard down. Sadly crime happens everywhere and Benidorm is no exception, but if you use your common sense and keep your wits about you, then you should have an incident free time here.
The Latin saying ‘praemontius, praemunitus’ is very apt and loosely translated means ‘forewarned is forearmed’… if you know about a problem in advance, you will be able to deal with it. Awareness of a situation, especially a risky one prepares you to handle it should the situation arise.

Instead of flying, many people opt to drive to Spain, either taking the ferry to Northern Spain then heading down or making the journey through France - but with the tolls, not always a cheap option. But be aware that a change in EU law, which comes into effect on May 6 means that British motorists risk being fined up to €750 for speeding in other European countries. The CEO of Thomas Cook, one of the UK’s leading tour operators has admitted that action needs to be taken to clamp down on the false compensation culture which is costing the industry millions of pounds. Cowboy firms actively encourage tourists to make false claims of food poisoning, promising to reclaim the entire cost of the family holiday – something which is unique to British holidaymakers. HOSBEC, the Hoteliers Association in Benidorm said that they do not have this problem with any other nationality – only the British that come on packages through a tour operator, namely Jet2, Tui, Thomas Cook and Monarch.
