As always, the event was organised by Dona Sandland, a volunteer at the Benidorm dog shelter and was only possible thanks to the continued support of Christine Climent, owner of the palace who offers the venue free of charge.

On Sunday 4th October there will be an epic variety night at Benidorm Palace, with all proceeds going to the “Help for Heroes” charity and Elche Childrens Home.

  • The letter “Q” is the name of the new show - but what does it make you think of? Q from James Bond, who comes up with all the weapons and gadgets, Queen – as in Her Royal Highness or perhaps the British rock band? Well you´ll be correct on all counts as Artistic Director David Moore at Benidorm Palace told me this week, who I met up ahead of the new show, which will hit the stage at the beginning of May.

  • On Sunday, March 8 the fourth ‘Save My Life’ charity fundraiser will take place at the iconic Benidorm Palace. As in the previous years, the money raised will be used by Benidorm Dog Homing and Manos y Patas to help rehome abandoned dogs and cats. It is a lifeline for both, to help the hundreds of animals in their sadly sometimes not so temporary care have a second chance in life. There is certainly no shortage of entertainers, only too keen to offer their talents totally free for this very worthy cause. The line up this year includes Jamie Somers, Sean Mac, Ben Ashley, Guy Melidoni, Kim Peters, Aisha as the Adel tribute, Blues Brothers, Mel & Dave, Colin Coco Channel, The Roller maniacs, from the Palace illusionist David Climent, silk acrobat Lara Cano and biker stuntman Jonathan Rossi and hosting Tim Ames and David James.

  • Benidorm has always been a favourite holiday destination and with the Foreign Office directive not to travel to Tunisia in addition to the financial woes in Greece, will probably see many more head this way over the next couple of months. There is much being made in the UK press about Spain now on red alert – most of this is just scaremongering… everyone is on red alert! The UK is on the same terror alert yet you don´t see people fleeing – London is still full of tourists. Wherever you are in the world, you sadly need to be vigilant and sensible – times are changing.
Benidorm is as safe as any other resort – the police are always quick to respond and be aware, they all carry guns. If you ever come across a road check – which is rather common here, the trafico police even have machine guns and aren´t afraid to use them either!

  • Benidorm Palace will once again be hosting a one off double spectacular this Sunday, October 25 with two very well known sounds from the 60´ - "The Fortunes" and "Walk like a Man", which is a clue, as it is also the name of one of the groups top hits. Over the years the Palace has presented a number of fabulous original 60´s bands such as The Tremeloes, Swinging Blue Jeans, The Searchers and The Merseybeats - always a sellout.

  • When visiting Benidorm, on the tick list will be all the usual tourist attractions such as Terra Mitica, Aqualandia, MundoMar, Terra Natura for the daytime and the iconic and famous Benidorm Palace for the evening. But another thing that should be on the list is Benidorm Circus, which sometimes people forget about as its only on once a week - every Saturday starting at 6pm. The Big Top is located directly behind the Benidorm Palace.

  • Next Sunday, 3rd November the legendary 60´s pop phenomenon "The Merseybeats" will be performing at Benidorm Palace - and I mean the real ones not a tribute band which are the norm here!I had the privilege of talking to Tony Crane, the original founder member of the group during the week and admitted straight away that I hadn´t even been born when they formed, instead growing up with the Bay City Rollers and Osmonds.

  • The 60´s pop band "The Searchers" are coming to the Costa Blanca to perform at The Benidorm Palace for a one off special show on Sunday 21st April 2013.Originally founded in Liverpool back in 1959 by John McNally and Mike Pender, the four piece group changed members over the successive years. But John McNally, the driving force remains as the sole original member of the group.

  • The lockdown and its aftereffects have hit Benidorm particularly hard – a resort reliant on tourism. Media scaremongering - both from UK tabloids and even those here in Spain do little to help the situation either. Sadly a number of bars, restaurants and hotels still remain closed, realistically waiting until the UK´s 14 day quarantine is lifted and more airlines start bringing holidaymakers here. Aqualandia and Mundomar opened, but last week regretfully announced that due to poor visitor numbers that it is unviable to remain so and therefore will be closing their doors early on Sunday 23 August. It almost felt like the final nail in the coffin…. but like a knight in shining armour Benidorm Palace, the jewel of our crown reopened last Friday night.
