  • The 2015 Poppy Appeal in Benidorm was officially launched today – to much pomp and ceremony as it so justifiably deserves. The Torrevieja Pipes and Drums led the procession along the Levante promenade, attracting attention and applause from those that lined the route. Even the young lads drinking in the bars stood and clapped as the immaculately turned out Standard Bearers, British Legion members and ex-servicemen marched past… it certainly made everyone feel very proud of being a Brit.

The sound of the bagpipes attracted the attention of all along the Levante promenade, who quickly lined the route, applauding as they and the Standard Bearers marched by.

  • The 2016 Poppy Appeal was launched in Benidorm yesterday with a spectacular parade, led by the Torrevieja Pipes and Drums along the Levante promenade – making for an incredible backdrop. The sound of the bagpipes drew crowds off the beach and spectators lined the route, applauding as they passed. The immaculately turned out Standard Bearers followed – including one lady this year and behind them two gentlemen who rightfully earned the biggest applause and respect from all, the Chelsea Pensioners, wearing their distinctive scarlet coats and medals.
    The Mayor, Toni Perez walked behind, accompanied by the Vice Consul Sarah Munsterhjelm, Lt Col David Whimpenny, Captain Paul Lencass, Mr Nigel Hails – Chairman of District North of RBL in Spain and Robin Hargrave – the Poppy appeal co-ordinator. The parade finished at the end of the promenade and officials took to the stage, where The Rev Ray Andrews, Service Padre gave a prayer of thanks to start the ceremony.

  • Benidorm had the privilege of hosting this years RBL Poppy Appeal launch with two incredible gentlemen once again rightfully stealing the show – Chelsea Pensioners Wayne Campbell and Arthur ‘Skippy’ Teasdale. The pair have been making the journey all the way from the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London for the past nine years to attend this spectacular and important event.

  • The 2017 Poppy Appeal Launch took place in Benidorm today – to much pomp and ceremony as it rightly deserves. The wonderful sound of the Torrevieja Pipes and Drums headed the parade, which certainly attracted everyone’s attention along the Levante promenade. Then followed the immaculately turned out Standard Bearers and behind them, probably the real stars of the event – Arthur ‘Skippy’ Teasdale and Wayne Campbell, the two Chelsea Pensioners in their distinctive scarlet coats and medals who come over specially for this prestigious occasion every year… and it is a real honour and privilege to have them here.
