Pam is the President of the local Alfaz branch of the AECC - the National Spanish Cancer Charity. Cancer has come to the forefront of everyones mind following the sad and tragic death of Stephen Sutton in the UK this week - the extraordinary 19 year old who managed to raise 3.3 million pounds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The big C is dreaded by everyone yet figures show that 1 in 3 will be affected at some time in their lives - a scary statistic. So on Sunday 1st June you can do your bit and support this very worthy fundraiser. The idea is to form a line of one euro coins along the promenade in Albir, starting at the anchor then following the brown stone strip which runs along the length - it would be nice to reach Altea!

The Mayor of Alfaz, Vicente Arques will lay the first euro coin down at 12 noon, followed by a representative from the British Consulate - then residents and visitors will be invited to to join in with their coins.
So, on your marks
Collection tins have been placed in several bars, shops and restaurants in the area for those that would like to support the event but unable to attend on the day. These will be collected and opened on the day, then added to the line.
I have just measured some euro coins to see how far they go.... 1 meter = 43.50€ so factoring up 10 meters = 430€ and 100 meters would make 4300€. How about we try REALLY hard and make the 1 kilometer mark and try and get 43,000€! I have a collection tin so if you see me out and about anywhere please stop and drop - a euro I mean into my box!
