This coming Sunday, 30th March, the town of La Nucia will host it´s first "International Day". The event has been organised by the Department of Foreign Residents, instigated by the Councillor Bart Gomans.La Nucia has a population of 20,000 residents, of which nearly half are foreign - covering 84 different nationalities! On the day 30 different countries will be represented from four continents, across 55 stands in the Camilo Cano Sports Centre, which is located just off roundabout number 1. It is an all day event, kicking off at 11am until 5pm... and most importantly it is FREE!
A real honour is that a British contingency will open the event - led by a 7 piece drums ensemble who are coming all the way from the Orihuela Costa.... some of which led the Poppy Appeal launch in Benidorm last year. It should be quite a show stopper and not to be missed. To attract visitors to the UK stand there will be a lone piper who will be accompanied by Prince Phillip and Her Majesty - not the real ones just in case you are wondering circulating around the venue. The Royal British Legion and a traditional English tea room will front the UK stand.

Each stand will showcase the best of their culture, with traditional dress and a selection of food dishes which you will be able to sample, native to their countries. Throughout the day there will be a program of activities and many countries will be performing on the central stage. You will be able to watch Bulgarian dancing, students from the Spanish dance school, the International chorus of the "Friday Choir", modern dance from the Broadway Academy and Streetwise plus many others.
The objective of the day is to encourage integration between all the different cultures and to learn about the traditions of others living in the same community. It should be a great fun filled afternoon.
