The coverage of British Prime Ministers David Camerons summer holiday does make be chuckle.... wanting to appear more like "normal people" it is reported that he flew in to Faro on an Easyjet flight. I can almost guarantee he wasn´t treated like the rest of us would have been - but I am willing to be proved wrong!

The airline has introduced new hand luggage rules, which came into effect on 2nd July. They are now the smallest dimensions of all the airlines flying to Spain which you need to adhere to if you want to be 100% certain that your piece will be allowed into the cabin with you. The previous more generous dimensions are still allowed - and free of charge (at the moment) but the airline cannot guarantee that there will be room in the overhead lockers and therefore may need to place them into the hold, defeating the point of those travelling only with hand luggage for a fast get away at the other end.

Some chunky bits of luggage in this queue!
There have been a lot of complaints among passengers about these new dimensions, but a representative for Easyjet came out with the following fact: If the flight is full and everyone had the maximum size of hand luggage then there would only be the need to place 8 bags into the hold! I have been on a flight, albeit not Easyjet and over a dozen cases had to be placed into the hold - and I am fairly certain that all the planes have the same overhead locker spaces. The staff at the Alicante end are very very strict so be warned - sometimes they lull you into a false sense of security by allowing you through the check in desk then catching you at the gate - which by then its too late. Ladies especially, make sure that your handbag fits into your hand luggage otherwise you will be classified as having 2 pieces and subsequently charged!

The rules are all clearly laid out in the T&C´s for every airline -  it is unfortunate that you get some believing that the rules do not apply to them! I wonder if David and Samantha were within the specified  Easyjet guidelines... Up to now Ryanair have been the "villains" that everyone complains about, but other so called low cost carriers are catching up quickly - eager to capitalise on the summer getaway.
