Benidorm is renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches and the reason most visitors come to holiday here . Levante, probably the most popular and well known is busy and full of life with bars and restaurants lining the promenade thumping out music,but if you want a more sedate one then take a trip to either Poniente or La Cala.These are the ones favoured by both the locals and Spanish as they are quieter and more family orientated. The Town Hall spent a lot of money over the last few years rebuilding the Poniente beach with brand new coloured walkways and access (including wheelchair) down to the beach... but probably missed the plot by making the road one way.
Like the Levante there are many bars and restaurants so you don't have to go far when
you fancy a local Menu del Dia for lunch. There is also a Mercadona supermarket close by so you can pop up there to buy a fresh baguette and some ham/cheese for lunch if you fancy staying put.Remember to check the flags that indicate whether the sea is safe to swim in ..... lifeguards patrol all the beaches but cannot save you from your own stupidity!
Green flag = Safe to swim
Yellow flag = Care needed
Red flag = Unsafe - DO NOT enter. You are liable to a 1000€ fine....
White flag = Jelly fish (July & Aug only)
La Cala beach is slightly further down and probably unique in that this small cove belongs to 3 different Town Halls: Villa Joyosa, Finestrat and Benidorm. Like Poniente it is quieter but lacks non of the attractions - bars and restaurants are plentiful, children's play area and changing facilities. Sun- loungers and parasols are available for hire as on all the other beaches.This is the one I always go to IF and when Im coerced to spend a day at the beach with family or visitors. Parking is by far the easiest here with a car park literally on the beach front ... which is FREE! The No. 20 bus runs all the way along the beaches starting at la Cala, Poniente, Rincon and even going up to Albir. Check the timetables for exact stops and times.
