For a totally unique way to add a thrill to your day, how about a helicopter tour over the Benidorm skyline! One local couple – Trish and Bill have just been up and despite the somewhat grey overcast day it certainly didn’t detract from the experience they said.
Bill booked the surprise to celebrate his wife’s 60th birthday and despite being somewhat nervous upon climbing in she said it was "dead smooth" and once airborne saw Benidorm from a completely different angle.
The views are absolutely breathtaking and you can video the entire journey or take photographs throughout – it reaches a height of 1000ft so you have a great vantage point, definitely something to show off to your friends when you get back home.
The heliport is located just beside the Terra Mitica theme park, from where it has been operating for the last 10 years. Owner - and pilot, Marc has been flying since he was 18, so a few years now, having learnt in America and prior to Benidorm was in Madrid for 10 years.
The Robinson R44 can carry up to 3 passengers and can reach a top speed of 100 mph – consuming 1 litre of fuel per minute. You can literally go as far as you want; have a 20 minute flight over Benidorm, Altea and Calpe– probably the most popular, go inland to the mountains for lunch, in an hour you can be in Ibiza or last week he even flew to Germany – obviously with fuel stops en-route, as the helicopter has the capacity to fly for 2.5 hours on a full tank.
The Robinson R44 is easy to handle and maintain – if you want to buy one it will set you back at least €350,000 but that is relatively cheap as far as helicopters go. Some beautiful shots of shiny models adorn the office walls and Marc pointed to one and told me it would be around €15 million to buy – makes 350K sound like a bargain! With it being able to take 3 passengers you can take along a registrar and even take your vows in mid air, certainly making it a day to remember.
