Following an article back in June on debit card charges, I reported that the Office of Fair Trading had ordered companies to stop the rip-off practise.Well suprise suprise ... absolutely NOTHING has happened. Airline card charges are costing us £100 million a year in "excessive" fees simply to book flights! Budget airlines are amongst the worse offenders - as anyone who travels here to Benidorm probably knows.

The second stage of La Vuelta was from La Nucia, a town 10 kilometers from Benidorm. The town has a market on a Sunday morning, but today the streets were full of cyclists in their outfits, not only the racers but the spectators as well. If you decided to rob a bank in the Alicante region, today would have been a good day. All the Guardia Trafico, Guardia Civil, National Police and Local La Nucia police were all participating in the opening!
The second business that ITV Daybreak's Steve Hargrave (Entertinment Correspondent) visited was Philip from the Casa Don Juan - a boutique hotel located in the very heart of the Old Town of Benidorm. It may appear to be a rather strange statement when you buy at Alicante airport for some items you pay MORE! I flew back to London from El Altet yesterday and was somewhat puzzled and astounded at the cigarette prices in the "Duty Free" shop. Although not a smoker myself I know the prices ......

On Monday the turnout was fabulous at the Sol Pelicanos Hotel - the fictious Solana Resort from the hit ITV comedy "Benidorm". The Thomson reps did a great job to ensure a large turnout of holiday makers - perhaps the promise of a pool side breakfast was too good an opportunity to miss. I bet many had been up half the night producing their "Hello banners" to wave ...

Monday morning was the first live broadcast from Benidorm's Levante beach. Although it was an early start - in fact it was still dark when we arrived at 6.30am there was a great turnout. Amongst the crowd there was a group of ex-pat pensioners from The Companians Club - including Victor Evans, the clubs oldest member at the grand age of 89.
My husband flew back home to Alicante from Manchester T2 yesterday with Ryanair and was rather suprised by the large vertical banner ad on display at the exit of the Biza Duty Free shop.Being a regular air passenger on Ryanair, normally traveling between London Gatwick and Alicante I am aware of the strict hand luggage policy that I always adhere to - that or face the extortionate £40 excess charge for being over the weight or size.
