More than 18 days have now passed since the disappearance of 68-year-old British holidaymaker Phil Pearce in Benidorm – and currently there are still no concrete leads on his whereabouts. It is his first time to the resort and he was staying for a week at the Gemelos 26 on Calle Derramador in the Rincon de Loix, popular with many Brits. He left to go and buy tobacco on Monday 9 September between 4-5pm, taking some cash and nothing else – he did not have a mobile phone. The last confirmed sighting of Phil was in the early hours of Monday, September 9, leaving the National Police station on Carrer Apolo in the heart of the old town.

Harley Bikers Day

For the ninth successive year, the Eucalyptus Park in Albir has hosted the annual Costa Blanca Custom Bike Show – an absolute must if you love big shiny bikes! It is probably the biggest concentration of gleaming Harley Davidson bikes you will witness in one place and even if you’re not a biker, you cannot fail but be impressed by all the chrome on display! In addition there were also plenty of stalls, selling bikers related accessories, clothing, memorabilia, food plus a very busy bar and stage with live rock bands, making for a great party atmosphere.

Benidorm Pea Men arrested... while tourist assaulted for warning others

The ‘mojiteros’ – illegal beach cocktail sellers, along with the pea men should be avoided at all costs here in Benidorm. Now thankfully there is one less gang after the National Police in Benidorm arrested five members of a gang that operated the pea game, fleecing holidaymakers out of thousands of euros every day. However, until a change in the law takes place, it is technically classified as a ‘misdemeanour’ here rather than a crime if less than €400 is involved. There are constant reminders not to stop and engage but sadly, reports surface daily of yet more fresh victims.

Benidorm has passed a new by-law regarding electric scooters, Segway’s and yes, mobility scooters which rose in popularity after Madge appeared on one in the Benidorm series. The Councillor for Mobility explained that these new regulations will ensure the safety of both the users, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. These fast moving electric vehicles will be banned from pavements with the exception of mobility scooters used by those who are disabled or with reduced mobility – obviously no one else should be using one anyway!

Crissy Rock - Back in Benidorm

One of Liverpool’s funniest exports has to be Crissy Rock and she’s back in Benidorm, accompanied by husband Julian to what she considers her second home. Crissy came here on holiday nearly 20 years ago and the very first venue that she performed in was Valentines – almost by accident. It is a place she holds dear and one to which she has returned, performing exclusive every evening at 10pm until mid-September! She packs the crowds in leaving everyone in stitches and although advertised as ‘adult humour’ there are plenty of younger ones in with their parents and grandparents. For those that do go and see her, you will realise how incredibly thoughtful of others she is when it comes to the bucket.

The Benidorm Sunbed scrum

Summer is here and so is the annual competition between tourists to bag the best sunbathing spot! Many years ago, the Brits would ridicule the Germans in particular when on holiday over ‘towel gate’ – getting up at the crack of dawn to reserve their sun loungers with a towel around the hotel swimming pool. But it doesn’t just happen around the hotel pool… if you are ever up early then take a stroll down the Levante promenade and you’ll see the coveted front line already lined with chairs and parasols, with hardly any occupants to be seen!

‘AQUA” - Dazzling and Spectacular

Benidorm Palace has once again surpassed itself with their new show ‘Aqua’ - which doesn’t need much translating as it is probably the one word that everyone knows. Each year they produce a new jaw dropping show and you cannot believe that it can be topped, but somehow, they just do!
Quite how they manage to get water cascading down onto the stage without getting the audience soaked in the process is a feat in itself and done in a truly spectacular manner - the imagination is mind blowing and my goodness, so dramatic like nothing ever seen before.

Benidorm's Weekly Market

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Virtually every Spanish town holds a weekly outdoor market but here in Benidorm we are doubly lucky, with not one but two and both on twice a week – every Wednesday and Sunday. The one most popular with holidaymakers is in the Rincon de Loix, just past the Pueblo and Helios hotels. The other is past the tram station in the old town, in the Foietes car park opposite the Guillermo Amor sports stadium. The stall holders are set up by 8am and generally there till around 1:30/2pm, so you can still manage a lie in if you’ve had a heavy night out!

The Cross - On the Benidorm 'To Do' list

One of the best view points of the resort is from The Cross, on top of the Sierra Helada mountain overlooking the Levante side of Benidorm, a must on the bucket list of things to do and see here. The origins of this iconic landmark date back to the 50's and many make the trek up every day, some leaving messages, padlocks and mementos, especially to loved ones that have passed away. It is ap 1.8km each way – just over a mile, but the inclines are pretty steep on route so be prepared for a good workout!

Benidorm's iconic landmark demolished

Just as the resort is entering its crucial busy summer season one of the most visited landmarks has been closed off to the public and been totally demolished. ‘El Castell’ - probably better known as the Mirador up at the top of the Old Town, with its picture-perfect photo location is no longer. Hoardings have been erected at the bottom of the steps and diggers have flattened the iconic structure – which only last month hosted the Benidorm Pink Weekend. Thousands make the pilgrimage up there to get breath taking views of both sides of Benidorm and take photographs of the Levante and Poniente beaches. It is one of those ‘must see’ place when you come here but don’t bother to make the effort now as you’ll be left very disappointed.

Tapas - A real Spanish fare

One of the exciting things about going abroad is sampling the local cuisine and the two things that most people associate with Spain is Tapas and Paella. The Spanish never ever eat paella in the evening – only at lunchtime as they say it will sit on your stomach. Here in Benidorm, the best place to sample Tapas is in the Old Town on Calle Santo Domingo, better known to most as Tapas Alley. Located just off the walking street, the entire road is lined with tapas bars and here you will be able to sample some exceptional top-quality Spanish gastronomy. The Brits normally associate the word tapas with all the little snacks on offer, but officially they are categorised as either tapas or pinchos. Traditionally pinchos are slices of bread with things on top whereas tapas come in little terracotta dishes, which can either be served hot or cold, but need to be eaten with a folk

Behind the scenes of 'AQUA'

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

The iconic Benidorm Palace is usually on most visitors ‘To Do’ list and even the locals go on a regular basis, especially when they have visitors. It’s a magnificent show incorporating a troupe of dancers of many nationalities with the most amazing costumes you are ever likely to see. There are also additional acts on in between the numbers and the show changes every year. The new one is called ‘AQUA” which premiered this week after weeks of rehearsals and once again steering at the helm is David Moore, Director and creator of this extravaganza. It is the first of a four-part cycle to cover the elements, so to follow over the next three years will be Fire, Earth and Air!
