  • One of the main attractions to Benidorm are the stunning golden sandy beaches and along with the fantastic weather, helps to keeps Benidorm at the top of the holiday destination list for the Brits. Unlike others, Benidorm is blessed with 4 separate sandy beaches, in addition to a number of hidden rocky coves – so there is something for everyone. Sadly, despite entering phase 2 of de-escalation this coming Monday, June 1, Benidorm´s beaches will remain shut for a further 2 weeks until June 15, a real disappointment for the locals here.

  • The Poniente beach was transformed into a surreal sight for many this weekend, becoming a battlefield for the re-enactment of the D-Day Normandy landings. More than 300 members of Codex Belix took part – an association dedicated to recreating historical events, traveling not only from various parts of Spain but also from across Europe to participate. Holidaymakers didn't know quite what to make of men dressed in full military gear in the searing heat, complete with guns!

  • The recent UK press coverage of 81 year old Freda’s ‘dream holiday to Benidorm’ being ruined because “the hotel was full of Spanish holidaymakers” wouldn’t look out of place in a scene from Fawlty Towers! But her remarks get even more absurd when she asks “why can’t the Spanish go somewhere else?” Rather embarrassingly, this story has also appeared in the Spanish papers and you can just imagine their reactions! It is adding fuel to the fire of Spaniards perceptions of Brits just wanting a little Britain in the sun. Choosing the correct side of Benidorm is very important as they differ vastly, as is picking the correct accommodation, as Freda and probably many others quickly realise!

  • Fast food chain Burger King, which has three outlets in Benidorm will soon become two. The outlet located on Avd Jaime 1 in the Old Town, just beside the Hotel Corona del Mar which overlooks the Poniente beach is being evicted by the Council.

  • After 13 weeks of lockdown, Benidorm´s beaches were finally allowed to re-open this morning, albeit with strict social distancing rules. They have been divided up into 3 zones – green for over 70´s, blue for everyone else although over 70´s can use these too if accompanying a family group, which are marked out into 4x4 meter squares and free for users. The third area is the sunbed rental zone which remains at the same price, 5€ sunbed and 5€ parasol. Spaces have to be pre-booked, however, rather embarrassingly, the booking app, which has reportedly cost €700,000 isn´t yet ready.
