Everyone went to great lengths to join in the party atmosphere, with green the colour of the day. Many bars put of special live entertainment - and with the weather resembling a summer afternoon, the drinks were flowing and terraces quickly filled. By mid afternoon it was difficult to find a spare seat....Here is a selection of pictures that captured the mood of today.
I think that come Tuesday morning there will be a few sore heads walking around - but I am sure everyone will agree it was well worth it! The next excuse for getting dressed up will be the huge British Fancy Dress Day - which is on Thursday 13th November this year.
