The fifth Elvis Fest took place in Benidorm this weekend and was once again a great success. The sun shone putting everyone in the mood for some singing and jiving – even Derren Litten, Benidorm series writer and a known Elvis fan was in the audience at the Melia hotel, together with Tony Maudsley and Tim Healy.
Many of the fans, well male ones at least, dressed up Elvis style, with quiffs, sideburns and loud shirts. Even a group of ladies came as Elvis - all 7 identically dressed. Tickets for the 3 day event had sold out months ago, although everyone was welcome to enjoy the shows at the poolside stage of the Melia.
Twelve Elvis Tribute Artistes came from the UK, Malta, Germany and here in Spain, including Benidorm´s finest, Simon Patrick. Shows took place at the Rock & Roll House, Levi´s Showboat and the La Toretta suite in the Melia. However, the highlight of the weekend had to be the show at Benidorm Palace on Sunday night, featuring all 12 performers.
It was the biggest Elvis event ever staged in Europe, with some fantastic choreographed routines, which got the audience singing along and dancing in the aisles. The palace was packed – in fact, I haven´t seen the back row used in a long time. The date for next year has already been announced – 15 to 17 April 2016 and you can book at www.elvisinbenidorm.com
