Collecting for Poppy Appeal at Tiki BeachOne of the most popular bars in Benidorm has to be Tiki Beach on the Levante front. Whenever you pass it is virtually always packed to the rafters, with people spilling out onto the road. Some people pass judgment on those having fun – but today I spoke to one lady who cannot speak highly enough of either Tiki Beach or the clientele! The lady in question is Marilyn Rogers – Social & Membership Secretary of the RBL Benidorm branch.

Well done Tiki Beach!

Tiki Beach Together with husband Peter, the pair have been organizing the Poppy Appeal in Benidorm this year, which to date has raised 7,500€. However, at Tiki Beach alone they have collected a staggering 1000€ from the exceptionally generous drinkers – and Marilyn would like to say a huge thank you to the staff who allow and welcome her in to sell the poppies there. Poppies, badges and wristbands will continue to be sold until 14th November – and many British bars, shops and businesses have a collection tin available.

Remembrance Sunday in Benidorm

Levi´s ShowboatThis Sunday is Remembrance Sunday and the resort is holding two events to mark the occasion. Firstly, at 11:45am at Cuidad Patricia, there will be an "Act of Remembrance" followed by optional lunch for those that wish to join in. Then afterwards at 2pm, there is a massive charity afternoon at Levi´s Showboat to raise funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Miss LeviThere is only one man in Benidorm who knows how to part people and their money for a good cause – and that is Wayne Edward Wright, aka Miss Levi! He has very generously organized an entire fun packed afternoon of entertainment, featuring some of Benidorm´s best including Simon Patrick as Elvis, Dusty Springfield, Dean Ryan, Gary Barlow, Tony Scott, Stella Artois & the Dream Girls, Gary George plus many many more. Entry is only 2€ - which goes towards the cause and there will also be a raffle, with prizes all generously donated by local businesses.

Poppy Appeal at Tiki BeachThe poppy is a symbol of remembrance for those who died serving their country, not only in the two World Wars, but increasing in the numerous current conflicts across the globe. The British should wear their poppy with pride - Lest We Forget.

They shall grow not old as we are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
