The sensational Moors parade took place in Altea last night (Saturday 24th September) – with an array of stunning costumes and even more remarkable face painting. The festival is celebrated every year in towns all over Spain, but particularly in this region of the Costa Blanca and celebrates the battles between the Moors (muslims) and Christians from the 8th to the 15th Century. Benidorm will be holding their parade on Saturday, October 1st.

Hundreds participated, going to great lengths dressing up in a multitude of colourful jaw dropping outfits. Feathers and sequins were in abundance plus plenty of very high heels...

Following a 2-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the traditional Holi colour festival took place at Terra Natura in Benidorm yesterday. Prior to the event, crowds gathered to celebrate Pepita the elephants 50th birthday, with a music and dance display before presenting the star of the day with a basket of fruit and vegetables which she shared with her best friend Kaiso.

The traditional Castell de l´Olla midnight firework display took place in Altea last night (Saturday, August 13) following a two-year absence due to the pandemic. The event is the biggest firework display in the entire country, attracting tens of thousands to the area and a great and much needed boost to the local economy.

No one does charity and good causes like Benidorm and on Wednesday, the new Busy Bees Benidorm charity calendar was launched by Wayne and Des Bellamy-Wright, founders of the charity, which they set up in 2016 alongside Tad and Paige from the Yorkshire Pride group. The launch took place at the Happy Days bar in the Rincon this afternoon, with the Channel 5 "Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun" film crew in tow, recording for the new series!

Local Police in Benidorm in conjunction with the town hall, have embarked on a clampdown over the rental and use of mobility scooters and electric scooters in the town... long overdue according to many! Benidorm was one of the first places in Spain to regulate the hire of mobility scooters following complaints from road users and pedestrians.

Benidorm town hall commemorated Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee by lighting up the 20 meter tall ´Tecnohito´ tower, located at the end of the avenida Meditarraneo with a congratulatory message. It was a wonderful gesture and much appreciated by both British residents and visitors, who were here on holiday over the weekend.

The annual Medieval Market is up and running in Benidorm, located in Parc d´Elx (Dove Park) at the start of Poniente beach and on until this evening – Sunday May 8. There are lots of stalls along the promenade plus randon processions and demonstrations throughout the day. If you are hungry, there´s a delicious bbq with sausages, ribs, spit roast pig and a ginormous paella!

Benidorm was one of many towns and cities across Spain that held a Three Kings parade yesterday evening (Wednesday 5) – with Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar the stars of the event. Setting off a little after 6pm from Parque de Elche (Dove Park) in the old town, numerous floats were interspersed with animated dance routines and bands.
