The participants of the 2014 "Benidorm or Bust" charity car rally arrived safe and sound in Benidorm yesterday - which is more than could be said for some of the cars! Of the 92 cars that entered 5 died on route, which is pretty good going considering the condition of some. This is the 4th successive year that the event has taken place - and the brainchild of Steve Turner from West Yorkshire.

Originally Pink Weekend was held in October to replace the changed Pride dates, but it has now become an annual event to be held in May - with this years date confirmed as Friday 16th until Sunday 18th May. Benidorm will welcome its first cruise ship to the resort later this year thanks to some great negotiating between the Town Hall and cruise operator - German owned Pheonix Reisen. Alicante is generally the port of call and Benidorm has over the years, albeit unsuccessfully, been trying to lull passengers to the resort from there.
This is currently a very controversial topic in Benidorm, with many asking ARE children allowed in bars. A few have notices outside stating "No under 16´s" - some with a time limit to what time they are allowed in until and come under a lot of criticism from holiday makers. After all, Benidorm is promoted as a "family friendly" resort.

Much has been made in the British tabloids today of ex-pats packing up and disappearing, with headlines such as "Spanish dream has ended for 90,000 ex-pats". The ongoing dispute between Elche taxi drivers and "illegal" carriers appears to be coming to a conclusion. A meeting held back in March between the Director General of Transport, Councillor of Transport in Elche - under which El Altet Alicante airport comes under and the President of the Association of Taxi´s in Elche have agreed upon a three point plan.

I read with great amusement an article in this mornings Daily Mail - that Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls is under police investigation following a "fail to stop collision". From reading that you would have thought it was a major incident, but no, he was performing not a 3 but 7 point turn and clipped another car without realising.

The continued good weather here in Benidorm is great news - particularly for those holiday makers who have chosen to spend their Easter break here. The Levante beach has been packed, with many even taking to the waters to cool down! In what could honestly be a scene from a Carry On film as it is so absurd, a "pea-man" has put in a "denuncia" - which is an official complaint, against a member of the National Police for arresting him!Last Summer the National Police spent a day handing out leaflets on the streets of Benidorm warning people about the scam.

Filming of the 7th series of "Benidorm" is now in full swing and into its third week - much to the delight of fans, who can be found waiting outside the locations in the hope of catching a glimpse of the cast. Sadly last week signaled the end for the Garvey's as they had finished all their appearances in the first 2 weeks of recording, but 2 favorites have returned - Johnny Vegas as "The Oracle" and Elsie Kelly as Norren, his mother.
